When Billy engages in a thoughtless prank in which Mark is mistaken for the son of a wealthy family, he is kidnapped and taken to a secluded house in the mountains.

Billy is afraid to tell the truth, but he alone can save Mark from this black affair. Will Lynn's faith be enough to bring strength and shine a beacon of light and truth onto Mark's most uncertain faith?

Classics

Lamp Post and the Christian Classics Ethereal Library are proud to present some of the finest Christian literary works of all time — writings that have affected the Church, touched the hearts of its leaders, and helped shape Christianity for two thousand years; timeless books that have endured and are deserving to be included among the Christian Classics.

On Cleaving to God

This famous and much loved little treatise, "On Cleaving to God," (De Adhaerendo Deo) has always been attributed to Saint Albert the Great, who lived from about 1200 to 1280, and was one of the most respected theologians of his time.

"I have had the idea of writing something for myself on and about the state of complete and full abstraction from everything and of cleaving freely, confidently, nakedly and firmly to God alone, so as to describe it fully (in so far as it is possible in this abode of exile and pilgrimage), especially since the goal of Christian perfection is the love by which we cleave to God."
— St. Albert the Great, On the highest and supreme perfection of man, in so far as it is possible in this life.

Uniformity with God's Will

The subject of God's will was for Alphonsus a theme of predilection, a theme dearest to his heart. Just as St. Ignatius stressed "the greater glory of God,' St. Alphonsus in all his works, gave prominence to "the greater good pleasure of God." The death of a friend deeply affected the Saint and he expressed his sentiments in a poem on God's will. The wide acclaim it received may have suggested to him the thought that a tract on the same subject would be helpful to the souls of others. His surmise proved correct, for the appearance of his subsequent pamphlet was greeted with instant favor.

"Perfection is founded entirely on the love of God: 'Charity is the bond of perfection;' and perfect love of God means the complete union of our will with God's." — St. Alphonsus

St. Anselm's Proslogium: Discourse on the Existence of God

In this brief work the author aims at proving in a single argument...the existence of God. The author writes as one who contemplates God, and seeks to understand what it is he believes.

He originally titled this work “Faith Seeking Understanding.” He finally named it Proslogium...simply, “A Discourse.”

Often called the second Augustine, St. Anselmus starts out from the same principle as the first; he holds that faith precedes all reflection and all discussion concerning religious things. Unbelievers, he says, strive to understand because they do not believe; whereas Christians, on the contrary, strive to understand because they do believe.

Nature and Grace

“A work of divine justice invariably presupposes a work of divine mercy as its foundation...mercy is present from the very beginning of every work of God.” — Thomas Aquinas

This volume presents the view taken by Thomas Aquinas of the moral and spiritual world in which we live, and of the conditions of man’s self-realization which are consequent upon it. The final end of man lies in God, through whom alone he is and lives, and by whose help alone he can attain his end.

Theologica Germanica

This work was discovered and published in 1516 by MARTIN LUTHER, who said of it that “Next to the Bible and St. Augustine, no book has ever come into my hands from which I have learnt more of God and Christ, and man and all things that are.” It has since appealed to Christians of all persuasions.

The Master's Indwelling

We all know what the power of joy is; we know there is nothing so attractive as joy, there is nothing can help a man to ear and endure so much as joy...The Master's Indwelling!

Delivered by the author in a series of addresses at the Northfield Conference of 1895, but later rewritten and revised by him for this permanent and authorized publication.

The Cloud of Unknowing

A practical spiritual guidebook, The Cloud of Unknowing was thought to have been written in the latter half of the 14th century, by an anonymous English monk, possibly a Carthusian, who counsels a young student to seek God not through knowledge but through what he speaks of as a “naked intent” and a “blind love.”

“Our intense need to understand will always be a powerful stumbling block to our attempts to reach God in simple love [...] and must always be overcome. For if you do not overcome this need to understand, it will undermine your quest. It will replace the darkness which you have pierced to reach God with clear images of something which, however good, however beautiful, however Godlike, is not God.” — Author, The Cloud of Unknowing

The Works of James Arminius

"Concerning God, the primary object of theology, two things must be known, (1.) His nature, or what God is, or rather what qualities does he possess? (2.) Who God is, or to whom this nature must be attributed. These must be known.”
— James Arminius
Disputation Fifteen
“On the Nature of God”

Angels are substances merely spiritual, created after the image of God, not only that they might acknowledge, love and worship their Creator, and might live in a state of happiness with him, but that they might likewise perform certain duties concerning the rest of the creatures according to the command of God.
— James Arminius
Disputation Twenty-Five
“On Angels in General and in Particular”

Jacobus Arminius (aka Jacob Arminius, James Arminius, and his Dutch name Jacob Harmenszoon), was a Dutch theologian, best known as the founder of the anti-Calvinistic school in Reformed Protestant theology, thereby lending his name to a movement which resisted some of the tenets of Calvinism — know popularly as Arminianism.

JACK CAVANAUGH, author of twenty-five novels, has received widespread critical acclaim.
