This is a guiding principle for fiction published by Lamp Post, however, we give given unique consideration based upon plot. Our goal is to leave the reader with a feeling of satisfaction…edified for having read your work.
Ask yourself the following questions, and if you feel the answers are yes – we look forward to reading your story, and considering it for publication:
Is it True to Life? Consider how you talk, think, and see the world. Do the characters in your book think, feel, smell, taste, and talk like real people?
Is it Relevant? Who is your audience? How does your story fit in today’s world? But more, how does it teach your reader about God’s love? The power of redemption? Or other biblical themes.
Yes, the world is an edgy place, however sin should never be glamorized in a Lamp Post Publication. Lamp Post Titles, regardless of genre, should find at least one main character was firm in their faith, leading by example rather than overt preaching.
Is it Edifying? Remember, gratuitous violence or overt sexual content will need to be either omitted or revised before publication will be considered.
What do we mean by gratuitous? Does its presence in your story progress the plot? Could the chapter/paragraph/sentence be revised? Would doing so edify the reader by the story’s end?
